"Another great concept from the brilliant mind of Whitey McConnaughy. This one came together super quick with the help of some insane Portland locals and their sick air guitar skills. All four songs of Plöw's new EP 'Bicentennial Picnic' are hot as hell and explosive like dynamite. Plöw is an excellent southern stoner sludge metal band from Denmark. Highly recommended for fans of Down, Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity!

Bio:
"Plöw is a band that started in the spring of 2009. Originally founded by front man Rune Bæk and lead guitarist James Becker. Later that year two of their old Højskole friends joined them. Mads Bruun Rasmusen respectively playing bass and Søren Stenger tightening up the rhythm department. About 3 months after the band got fully formed they recorded their first EP. This 6 song self titled debut was recorded at M&T studios in south Jylland and was then later on released in February of 2010. The release came only a week before Plöw emerged on their first tour. The tour was a 9 day tour around Denmark where they served as a support band for the Swedish Stoner Rock band New Keepers of the Water Towers.
Following the tour Plöw kept on roaming the underground scene of Denmark. Playing a handful of gigs inside and out of Aarhus. Teaming up with bands like Magnified Eye, Double Space, AEDRA, Drön, Ruun and Hexis. In January 2011 Plöw emerged to the M&T studio again tracking what would come to be their next EP. Plöw started by releasing the single High Tide with a following video. The video has gotten allot of praise around the viral community as well as the song. In December 2011 Plöw released their second EP, Bicentennial Picnic.
Bicentennial Picnic contains 4 tracks including the single High Tide. Bicentennial Picnic is only available online at the moment. But in early 2012 it will be released in a physical form and will be for sale at their live concerts."

Does anyone believe the Ancient Astronaught idea?
I think its possible. Just based on some of the monolithic guitar riffs and extraterrestrial song structures on this 5-track album "Pilot... Chariot..." I don't see how man could have done this alone. Ancient Astronaught brought this alien sound to us like some interstellar missionaries.

I recently recommended the bandcamp site of Midnight Chaser and want to point again to this great music label. Another year, another challenge. The ongoing flow of outstanding album releases doesn't stop. «Boued Tousek Hag Traou Mat All» is one of that kind and Stangala is a band extraordinaire. They released this awesome album on 05 December 2011. Their label Solitude Productions praises the first album of the French stoner doom metal trio continuing the great traditions of Black Sabbath. Biting riffs typical for early doom metal are organically combined in Stangala music with Celtic folk elements which is ideological and lyrical basic of the band. «Boued Tousek Hag Traou Mat All» can be recommended to all fans of Electric Wizard, Sleep and, certainly, early Black Sabbath albums!

"The story began in 2007, when 3 modern celtic druids gathered somewhere in the mystical woods of Kemper, France. They were said to secretly perform occult rituals, under the influence of the great green smoke. Inspired by the legacy of the great ancients such as the mighty Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, or the young Queens Of The Stone Age, but also by more local and traditional Celtic knowledge, of which Brittany is abundant. First results soon showed up, and an initiative trip was planned after just a few weeks, by means of a collection of nine songs refered to as "..dans les bois" ("..in the woods"). After many public ceremonies, the druids gained some notoriety and assurance and they later self-released a new book of magic spells called LSD (The delirium of the Salvia dwarf).

RED FANG Announces European Tour With Mastodon

Having just wrapped up their highly successful North American run with Mastodon, RED FANG has confirmed that they will be heading to Europe this Winter with Mastodon. RED FANG will be providing direct support on the tour which kicks off January 10th in Finland and will conclude February 10th in Birmingham, England.

The band commented on the upcoming run:

"The US tour we just did with those guys was one of the best ever so we are thrilled to be continuing this magical journey with Mastodon in Europe!"

Stubb's Debut Album Released via Superhot Records

The brand new label Superhot Records is proud to announce the upcoming release of British psych rock power trio Stubb's debut self titled album. The 8 song LP will be released on 6th February 2012 on vinyl, CD and digital with an album release show planned for 4th February in Camden, London.

In late 2010 the band headed to Dropout Studios in London, England and laid down 8 tracks of fuzzed out modern salutes to the good old days; straight up rock songs recorded mostly live in an basement studio manned by Tim Cedar of Part Chimp. After touring with Stone Axe in April 2011 Tony Reed of Mos Generator and Stone Axe fame was put in charge of mixing and mastering and even makes a guest appearance.

In March/April 2012 Stubb will head out on the road again with Stone Axe and fellow Britons Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight for a 2 week UK/Mainland European tour. The band will also make an appearance at London's Desertfest on Friday 6th April.

BLACK TUSK announces US headlining dates, Texas shows supporting Mastodon

BLACK TUSK has announced an Eastern US headlining tour in support of their forthcoming new record Set the Dial. The tour starts Nov. 2nd in Charlotte, and runs through mid-November, and includes a stop as part of the Metal Suckfest. Support on this run comes from THOU and MONSTRO on select dates.

Additionally, BLACK TUSK has confirmed a string of regional record release shows. Among them Savannah and Atlanta stops as well as two Texas dates supporting MASTODON. A listing of additional regional Georgia tour dates can be found below with more dates to be announced soon.

BLACK TUSK are currently streaming the first single from their forthcoming release "Set the Dial" on their Facebook Page. The song "Bring Me Darkness" can be heard here.

BLACK TUSK has unveiled the cover art for "Set the Dial" at this location. The artwork was designed by John Dyer Baizley who has illustrated all of the band's releases.

MASTODON: 'The Hunter' Available For Streaming

"The Hunter", the new album from Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON, is available for streaming in its entirety in the YouTube clip below.

"The Hunter" will be released in several configurations that feature an exciting interactive 3D experience known as Augmented Reality. The technology, created by Los Angeles-based company Total Immersion, combines virtual and real worlds to create a 3D one-of-a-kind interactive experience that users can control. Just by using a camera on a computer, their own face and the cover art on "The Hunter", the user can turn themselves into "The Hunter" sculpture that is pictured on the cover.

The physical configurations for "The Hunter", which will be released by Reprise Records on September 27, are as follows:

* Standard CD: Includes the album's 13 tracks, plus a basic Augmented Reality Experience in which the users head becomes the "creature" on the album's front cover in full 3D.

* Deluxe Physical CD/DVD: Sold as a 13-song digipack with an alternative cover, this package includes the standard CD, with the basic Augmented Reality Experience, plus a DVD that includes a track-by-track, psychedelic visualizer, the "Deathbound" and "Black Tongue" videos.

* Direct-To-Fan Package: This exclusive package will be comprised of the complete 13-song digipack album. Additionally, buyers will receive two digital bonus tracks on day of release (more on that soon). An exclusive insert will be included which triggers an enhanced Augmented Reality Experience and contains additional embedded content (again, more on the subject to be revealed shortly). Also included is a 20" x 30" lenticular poster of the standard album cover artwork.

The follow-up to 2009's "Crack The Skye" will be MASTODON's third studio CD to be made available on Reprise Records in the U.S. and Canada and the band's first to be issued through Roadrunner Records outside of North America.

When asked about the sound of MASTODON's forthcoming album, drummer Brann Dailor told the German edition of Metal Hammer magazine, "When you listen to the songs, they don't sound as 'fun' as we perceive them to be, I guess; it's still pretty extremely heavy material." He added, "We had a few songs that were kind of, not left over from 'Crack The Skye', but just stuff that we wanted to be on that album, but that album kind of took on a whole different thing of its own and there were a few stragglers that were super-heavy and crazy that didn't make it, and we finally got to put them on this record. And then we wrote a whole bunch of brand new stuff. There's, like, 14 songs that we recorded. And it's sort all over the place — a lot of different sounds. Some straight-up classic-rock-sounding songs, straight-up death metal-sounding songs and some completely bizarre, weirdo rock songs that we're not really sure what they are, but we love them."

"The Hunter" was recorded at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo. Drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios where NIRVANA's masterwork "Nevermind" was recorded.

Legendary Doom Pioneers THE OBSESSED To Reunite For Roadburn 2012

Roadburn is elated to announce that legendary doom pioneers The Obsessed will reunite to play the Roadburn Festival on Saturday, 14 April 2012. The band will be featuring the lineup from The Church Within; Scott “Wino” Weinrich on guitar/vocals, Greg Rogers (Goatsnake, Sonic Medusa) on drums and Guy Pinhas (Acid King, Goatsnake and Beaver) on bass.

There is no debating the impact that Wino has had (and continues to have) on the stoner scene, and The Obsessed is the band with which he developed his signature doom songwriting and guitar sound. Formed in Maryland in 1976 as Warhorse, they soon changed their name to The Obsessed. The original four man lineup was pared down to a power trio and they spent several years playing shows and honing their sound, culminating in the release of the Sodden Jackal 7″ in1983.

The band then went on hiatus as Wino joined Saint Vitus for a few years in the late ’80s. They reformed in 1990 with Wino joined by a rhythm section of Greg Rogers and Scott Reeder. The new lineup released Lunar Womb before Reeder left to join Kyuss. At that point Guy Pinhas joined as the bass player and the band was signed to Columbia Records and went on to release The Church Within.

The Church Within was Wino’s most critically hailed album. Despite being co-released by Hellhound Records and the major label Columbia Records, the music-buying masses were not ready to embrace doom in 1994 and instead fixated on buying records by rehashed pop-punk bands. Several factors led to The Church Within becoming The Obsessed‘s last full-length album. Despite not becoming a top-seller, the album remains hugely influential.

Wino has appeared at Roadburn in a number of guises, including: Saint Vitus, Shrinebuilder, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, and his eponymous band, Wino. His distinctive style of guitar playing and his seemingly endless supply of great riffs has earned him a place on the Mount Rushmore of stoner rock, and now we at Roadburn are thrilled to give you the opportunity to experience the band that started the legend.

LO-PAN: Ohio Road Dogs Set To Kick Off Fall Tour Tomorrow!

There's no rest for the Ohio road dogs known as LO-PAN. Having recently completed the successful Let Freedom Ding tour (allegedly named for the many bells that mysteriously occupy the dashboard of the band’s van), the band will set out an another trek through the Northeast and Midwest alongside Small Stone label mates Suplecs and Backwoods Payback. The journey will include two separate Small Stone showcases in Philadelphia on September 23 and Chicago on October 1.

Coming off their highly successful Summer European festival run, Maryland Hard Rockers CLUTCH have confirmed eleven headlining dates in addition to their previously announced shows supporting Volbeat on their upcoming European tour.

"Roadburn is elated to announce the curator for the 17th edition of the festival: Voivod. After the band’s widely acclaimed and artistically inspiring performances at the 2011 festival, Voivod has agreed to curate our festival on Friday, April 13, 2012.

As curator, Voivod will personally select the bands that will play during their special event at Roadburn and perform a special headline show. We had a revelation this year: namely, that Voivod and Roadburn are not only kindred spirits musically and artistically, but also on the same wavelength in other ways, too. Voivod personifies the laidback Roadburn vibe. Respected by fans and bands that span the festival’s sonic spectrum,

Voivod is the ideal pick as Roadburn’s fifth curator. The band will carry on a tradition that began in 2008 with David Tibet, followed by Neurosis in 2009, Triptykon’s Tom Gabriel Warrior in 2010 and Sunn 0))) aka Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley at this year’s festival. After Voivod agreed to curate the Friday, we could not resist asking them to stay for a second show. It’s on! The band will appear on Saturday, April 14, 2012, too.

We will make sure that the whole spectrum of experimental music influential to Voivod is represented.Thanks to the Roadburn folks for inviting us, we’re already counting the days in anticipation of the event !!”

We are overjoyed to join forces with Voivod for the upcoming Roadburn Festival. The band’s take on thrash metal, hardcore, prog rock, avant-garde and punk has been honed to perfection for almost three decades. Captured in various stages and formations on more than 13 albums, including the legendary Killing Technology, Dimension Hatröss and Nothingface trilogy, the chilling Phobos and 2003′s high energy self-titled release, what began as a desire to do their own thing is now recognized as groundbreaking. The band has strongly influenced scores of musicians practicing the kind of sonic alchemy that defies simple tags like “heavy metal” or “psychedelic.”

We are truly looking forward to the new ideas and visions that Voivod will bring to the festival next year. If asked to sum up Roadburn in one word, “progressive” would be a fitting choice. "Washington DC’s Borracho delivers a groove-laden and epic heavy rock sound that combines soaring musicality with subterranean propulsion. The band draws on deep influences that span multiple decades and genres, encompassing classic rock a-la Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, stoner grooves in the vain of Clutch, Down, and Fu Manchu, and epic metal akin to Metallica, Mastodon and High on Fire. They build upon this foundation with their own brand of sonic richness, occasionally delving into sludge and doom just enough to topple the fortress.

The band took root in 2007, when four friends and bandmates set out to create a side-project that would indulge the heavier side of their musical tastes, and challenge their musicianship in new ways. The idea for Borracho was to create a straight-up stoner rock band to feature the vocals of Assrockers drummer Noah. In order to move him out from behind the kit, Adam West/Assrockers lead guitarist Mario moved onto the drums, an instrument he’s dabbled with for years. Adam West bassist Steve picked up his trusty flying V and like a riff machine, began unleashing material that quickly grew beyond the bounds of any one genre, probing further and deeper than his prior musical pursuits and, indeed, than the current group’s expectations. Assrockers rhythm guitarist Tim filled up the critical low end on bass, and the final piece was in place..." (last.fm)

One of the biggest hopefuls of the stoner metal scene is Borracho, who released the milestone Splitting Sky. This record was featured and reviewed in nearly EVERY relevant stoner/doom blog (The Soda Shop, Heavy Planet, Sludgelord, Doommantia, The Obelisk, The Sleeping Shaman, Hellride Music, et al.), so that there is not much left to say for me. I make it short - BETTER THAN CLUTCH! Blasphemous? No, it is the truth.

The Throne was established in March 2008 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as a completely D.I.Y. project in the very core of Hochelaga. After only 3 weeks of legendary drunkenness and sacred bong worship, Dopethrone already composed 4 songs and was talking about an album concept…
A year later, the new album: DEMONSMOKE was materialized. In the spirit of “Do-It-Yourself”, The Logo and concept was created by Vincent (guitar - vocals), the recording by Thomas (drummer) and the CD was produced by Vyk (bassist)…(last.fm)

Dark Foil is one of the biggest surprises of 2011 so far and apart from that one of the heaviest albums ever. Dopethrone come from nowhere (in this case nowhere is Montreal) and created with Dark Foil a monster of the heaviest stoner doom sludge metal you can imagine - a brutal bastard of Electric Wizard's Dopethrone (what a surprise!) and Weedeater's God Luck And Good Speed. Other similar artists, which comes to my mind, are Stonehelm, Wizard Smoke and Belzebong. Every song is a killer and catchy as an ear candy but with an earsplitting massive destructiveness of an atomic bomb.

Dopethrone has members of: Vatican, Blight, Unquintessence, (ex)Excreted Cowboy and (ex)Fatal Flaw.

Nomen est omen. This album is colossal. Birch Hill Dam is a heavy rock band from Massachusetts and they released their sophomore album Colossus. The music on Colossus takes the same line as Alabama Thunderpussy, House of Broken Promises and Down of course. Colossus comes straight from the heart with 100 percent groove, roaring growls, southern guitar solo for which Pepper Keenan hasn't to be ashamed of and now and then Birch Hill Dam embed a 70's hard rock organ into their sound. Birch Hill Dam flex their muscles. Stoner southern metal at full throttle kicks your ass with the sound of a V8 engine. Let’s burn rubber, baby!

Cultura Tres - El Mal Del Bien [2011]

"Now hailed as the national rock/sludge pride of Venezuela, Cultura Tres came from far. With the first EP “Seis” (2007) the band already outgrew the South American continent. But only after releasing debut album “La Cura” in October 2008, the band started to get noticed worldwide. During the preceding year of rigorous composing, Cultura Tres incorporated many influences into their sound, ranging from sludge to doom metal and from death metal to classic rock.

In the summer of 2010 the members locked themselves up in the studio to prepare the second album: “El Mal del Bien”. The result is - in the band member’s own words - “an album with a single clear direction”. Cultura Tres delves deeper into the dark atmospheric vein that already showed itself at moments in debut album La Cura. The daring album opener “Propiedad de Dios” sets the mood: it sounds like the soundtrack of a tragic cult movie. The songs that follow evoke the witchery, slavery, oppression and religious madness that influence the South American continent to this day. Being a concept album adds another dimension to the individual songs. A patient listener will be dragged into a hallucinating trip around the insane world the album paints.
Interestingly, the band has chosen to cover what might well be the first doom track in South America: “Holy Graveyard” (1992) by Epitafio. Alejandro Londoño, having been a member of this band in the past, has now fully closed the circle. Cultura Tres is living proof that the genre of doom/sludge was not dead in South America but merely dormant. Cultura Tres from Maracay, Venezuela, released their second full length album "El Mal Del Bien", which steamrolls the listener like a juggernaut. Dark doom/sludge mixed with many influences, especially the metal genres death/thrash and even nu metal, roars like a wounded beast and sometimes Cultura Tres come as close as possible to the South American uber-band Sepultura. This is the biggest compliment you can give to a South American band. It all started with Sepultura in South America and it will not end with Cultura Tres. Another band, which comes inevitably to the mind, is Los Natas from Argentina. It is not first and foremost the music, but rather the dark atmosphere and the exceptional sound. "El Mal Del Bien" is a musical revelation for those tired of the usual. Cultura Tres is the harbinger of the dawn of a new Doom/sludge era in South America. Outstanding!

Ohio rockers Lo-Pan have unveiled their latest slew of tour dates in support of their Small Stone Records debut, Salvador. After scores of shows across the country with the likes of Truckfighters, Dixie Witch, Gypsyhawk and Fight Amp, Lo-Pan’s “Let Freedom Ding” tour – allegedly named for the many bells that mysteriously occupy the dashboard of the band’s van – will find the outfit bringing their fuzzed-out soul rock bliss to the Midwest alongside heavy hitters like Chapstick, Bloodcow and Droids Attack.

In addition, Small Stone’s 180-gram vinyl pressing of Salvador is available now in white and red/blue clear swirl. Whatever flavor you choose, it’s delicious, and available now at smallstone.com/store. The band will also have copies with them on the road, and they take credit cards. Seriously.

Weedeater North American Headlining Tour 2011

After a few months off the road, North Carolina sludge demons Weedeater have just announced another headlining North American tour for September/October, still in support of their recently-released full-length, Jason… The Dragon.

While Weedeater‘s caustic style of aggressive sludge is devastating on its own live, the trio have enlisted some help on this rampage from Saviours, Bison B.C. and Fight Amp supplying opening support for the duration the venture. Saviours will not play the Philly or Brooklyn shows, but Oxbow will be supplying direct support for Weedeater at the Brooklyn gig.

The year in music is getting more and more obscure - and better, too. The climax of obscurity has been reached by a band called Uncle Acid and the deadbeats. This 70's Lo-fi witchy horror doom album Blood Lust is starring Uncle Acid, Kat and Red. Don't take it seriously. This is entertaining you like a horror B-movie. Every song is a hit and after the last tune is faded away you push the repeat button will-lessly like a zombie in the night of the living dead. You cannot escape from the army of darkness called Uncle Acid and the deadbeats, and you will walk with the zombie until Blood Lust has infected you. Blood Lust is like the kiss of a vampire - tempting, but fatally. Nearly perfect. Maximum on an open-ended scale!

Plot:
One mans lust for women's blood turns into a drug orgy of torture, magick and MURDER. Critics have described the work as "Vile, hateful trash". File under B MOVIE, BETAMAX HORROR, LOW BUDGET, SEXPLOITATION, DOLLAR THEATER etc.

"OYABUN was born in 2006, in Bordeaux, but then, Mother of Pearl was its name. It remained such until early 2010, when one of its founding members left. Meanwhile, they’ve recorded a first demo (5 songs, on 8 tracks, in less than 7 hours), in 2007, which was welcomed by many critics, and played numerous gigs - the highlight being our opening for The Lords of Altamont in 2008. A new release was planned for that same year, but they unfortunately had to postpone its recording to 2010 due to successive line up changes. GODS & DOGS was released February 2011 (this time, under the name of OYABUN) by the catalan label Discos Macarras. OYABUN recently won the french edition of the Volcom Band Joust, on which occasion they had the great pleasure to share a stage with Orange Goblin. At the moment, OYABUN is working on new material for the next record which should be entitled Zero Zen." (Oyabun's MySpace site)

One of my favourite albums in 2011 has been released by the obscure band OYABUN. Their masterpiece Gods And Dogs can be described as heavy psych stoner doom 70's hard rock. All songs on Gods And Dogs are melodically and technically fully matured like superior quality well hung meat. The grandiose guitar solos, the majestic vocals, the fuzzy and raw sound and the superb rhythm section are a feast for the ears of every music gourmet. France expands their widely recognized reputation for fine food into the field of fine rock music. These four French guys serve haute cuisine for your ears. Bon appétit.

Iron Claw - A Different Game [2011]

"The first new music from Scotland's Iron Claw in over forty years, A Different Game finds the band approaching their brand of melodic heavy rock from the only perspective they've ever known...with honesty and integrity. Recorded live with few overdubs, this new album captures a raw veteran band playing with the exuberance and gusto of a band half their age, and geared up to turn a whole new generation of rock fan onto their guitar-driven, gritty blues-tinged sound. Final mix and mastering work was performed by classic rock preservationist, Tony Reed (Stone Axe/ Mos Generator).

Serendipity.

From 1969 to 1974 Scottish Heavy Rock band Iron Claw plowed across the UK, blasting out relentlessly heavy doom-laden, heavy blues rock. In and out of the recording studios, the band never officially released an album, but the bulk of the their recorded output finally saw the light of day in 2009, released as a self-titled CD by Rockadrome. 35 years had passed since their last recording, but it was as if time had stood still. 2009 found a hungry audience, salivating at the heavy riffs and earthshaking rock that was Iron Claw. Stunned by the overwhelming response, the lads of Iron Claw started talking and soon, the band had reformed to work on new material. The buzz began to build.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, John and Todd of the Ripple Effect were formulating plans of their own. A record label was in the works to unleash the underground/authentic rock sounds that they'd spent the previous four years championing with their fan-favorite music site, The Ripple Effect. Since The Ripple Effect had pounced all over the Rockadrome Iron Claw album, an email from the band was sent to The Ripple Effect informing them of the plans to reform.

Wheels were set in motion.

Within weeks of Iron Claw's email, the band and Ripple Music found themselves in perfect musical kismet. A recording and publishing contract were signed. Iron Claw was officially part of a dynamic new indie rock label and Ripple Music had an underground legend on their roster. Together, they'd unleash new heaviness upon the world.

Local musician Gordon Brown (vocals) joined the three original founding members of the band; Ian McDougall (drums), Jimmy Ronnie (guitar) and Alex Wilson (bass), with the intention of creating an album of raw, unfettered heavy rock; not over-produced but faithful in all regards to the original spirit of the band. Instantly, it all came together. 40 years had passed since they'd last played together, but time meant nothing. It was like putting on an old pair of shoes. No need to break them in, immediately comfortable. The music was vibrant and alive. Iron Claw had been reborn.

Now, Ripple Music and Iron Claw are prepared to open the cage and release A Different Game onto an unsuspecting world. 13 tracks of riff-mad, blues driven rock. Some of the songs have their beginnings in songs written as far back as 1969. Some had been part of the band's live set in the 1970's. Some were bits of other projects. As a whole, they represent the best Iron Claw has to offer and a sound legions of heavy blues fans have been salivating for. Rough and ready rock 'n' roll."

Wow, I believe in wonders. Now I'm totally convinced. This story makes me happy and confident that it is never too late in life to live your dreams. I wish Iron Claw all the success they've missed the last 40 years. Iron Claw's masterpiece A Different Game is along with Stone Axe II the best classic rock release in the last 10 years.

There are so many great bands out there and I have so little time to listen to all of the good music. First of all I want to apologize to all the bands that I couldn't yet listen to and review these outstanding releases, but I want to change this in the near future.

Today I want to introduce you the Stoner/Psyche/Grunge band called AVER from the beautiful city Sydney, Australia. I was there in 2000 (a long time ago, I know) and I was very impressed about the beautiful location and the cool people - and the members of AVER are no exception. Far from that! First of all the gaudy cover catches my eye. Exotic vegetation, a totem pole, fire, purple fumes and a green moon in the black starry sky - superb! In April AVER finished their complete DIY debut album (self titled), and they can be proud of it.

You can call AVER's music some sort of a bastard child of Stoner Rock, Psychedelic, Space Rock and Grunge and their style is very unique. Rip-roaring and catchy melodies paired with great portion of heaviness are the solid basis for all 8 songs. AVER covers the whole spectrum of psychedelic Stoner Rock - from distorted aggressiveness to moderate and mellow tunes. AVER doesn't bore the listener at all. The sound is great - dynamic, spacy, trippy. AVER tried to do it all right - and these crazy Aussies did all right. AVER has what it takes to achieve great success. Highly recommended!

With a desire to satisfy a craving beyond mainstream rock, Threefold Law began in Cleveland, Ohio in 2006. Threefold Law pays homage to Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Trouble, Pentagram, Cathedral, and Down. The band’s music accentuates heavy riffs, crafted songwriting, and lyrical themes that expose the frailty of the human condition.

'Revenant', the successor of the the highly acclaimed USB flash drive “MMX” including the two EPs 'The Rede' and 'The Burning Time', is a concept album, which is based on the story of a desert traveler in ancient Persia that spends a night talking with the spirits of the ancients. There are five songs and four are named for the elementals (Earth, Air, Wind, Water). Track three is an acoustic instrumental called 'Interlude'. 'Revenant' features a free standalone website, including a full audio stream of the album and a companion eBook that James Thorn wrote. If you want to immerse yourself more deeply in the fascinating world of 'Revenant', I strongly recommend to read this eBook.

The concept and their artistic realisation is breathtaking but the musical adaptation is utterly heart-stopping. 'Revenant' is a very big surprise for all, who expected some similar to the 'The Rede' and 'The Burning Time' EPs. There are some tunes on 'Revenant', which remembers me to the traditional doom metal of former days, but this time Threefold Law goes far beyond the scope of the doom genre. There are elements of classic rock and seventies hard rock but without the typical pomp and circumstance. The transparent sound is clear and very unique and here and there minimalist. The guitar riffs and solos are hypnotic and the listener gets mesmerized by 'Revenant'. Drums and bass pump terrific in the rhythm of the heart beat and you wish that this journey never ends.

'Revenant' is a marvelous and a great experience and I listen to it again and again and with every time I'm more fascinated. Highly recommended!
