Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder [2010]

I’m a Melvins fan. Dyed-in-the-wool. Why am I telling you this? Because I have a subjective view. So I have to disappoint you if you are expecting a negative review. (the) Melvins is the most underrated band in the world. (the) Melvins make noise. Or is their music art? Possibly Sludge. Rock music? Perhaps. (the) Melvins are honored to be the godfathers of Grunge since the fandom of Kurt Cobain was made public. Whatever. (the) Melvins released awesome albums and surprised their listeners again and again, because it’s not all it’s cracked up to be for their pettifogging critics and fuddy-duddy listeners. What’s all that in aid of? Because of pedagogic purposes in order to make better people of us? The listeners have to dive deep into the Melvins’ cosmos and have to accept, that here neither something happens you can control nor understand. Also the new album requires several listenings and it grows with every time. After first listening the album you’re possibly amused or find it ridiculous or alienated, because of all the cranky and bizarre ideas and sound experiments.

'The Bride Screamed Murder' is a sublime masterpiece, which barely doesn’t reach the same level than their opus maximus ‘(A) Senile Animal’, but beats the predecessor ‘Nude with Boots’ by far. A critic stated that he has enough of the twin-drumming quartet sound and wishes back the real Melvins trio sound for the next releases. I expect nothing than the next masterpiece with every new Melvins release and if it doesn’t happen, I’m ready to accept the good and the evil from the masters. In the meantime I will listen to this psychopathic sludge metal jazzcore chef d'oeuvre at full volume and harass my fellow men wearing my Melvins Reichsadler shirt.

Welcome to the nuthouse!
